This guide covers everything you need to know to use the studio independently!

Studio Access

Hours

Onassis ONX is generally staffed 10AM–6PM, Monday–Friday. If you need access to the studio after hours or on weekends, please fill out the After-Hours Access Request Form to request an entry fob.
The co-working desks are first-come, first-served – you do not need to reserve them. The kitchen and common areas are generally open use, but all other spaces are bookable.

Take a look at the Studio Floorplans to familiarize yourself with the space, its capabilities, and room dimensions.
Use the Resource Booking Calendar to see existing bookings.
If you are booking any weekend slots OR 6-10AM or 6-10PM slots on weekdays, these are outside of staffed hours — please make sure you arrange access beforehand.
The bookings are in 4-hour blocks — please only book the time you actually need!
You can book spaces and equipment via the Resource Booking Portal. You should create an account first (upper right of the landing page) so you can track, change, or cancel bookings. You can also manage or reschedule bookings via the confirmation emails you receive.
A full shareable list of production resources lives on the Onassis ONX Tech Sheet, including links to specs and tutorials, but can also be searched on our Studio Resources Database.
You are welcome to book slots for multiple days in a row, but please reach out if you need to use a space for an entire week or more.
If you need access to the freight elevator, please reach out to the Studio Manager ahead of time to coordinate — please give at least 24-hours notice.

If another artist or fellow is scheduled before or after you, plan your setup and breakdown so you're not running into their time.
If plans change, cancel or reschedule as early as possible so the slot can go to someone else! Your original booking email has links for canceling appointments.
Onassis ONX reserves the right to adjust bookings when the studio is needed for public programming or special events. We will reach out as early as possible if it happens. </aside>

You can buzz up or use your assigned entry fob and access code if you have one.
On your first visit, introduce yourself to the ONX staff! They will give you a tour and orient you to the space.
Also, say hello to the other artists around! </aside>

Please follow our Space Reset Guidelines to ensure a smooth transition between bookings!
It is especially important to return chairs and seating areas to their original positions after sessions.
The studio should stay clean and orderly! While we have cleaners to keep the studio tidy, if you notice a spill or mess, a vacuum and cleaning supplies are located in the closet nearest to the restrooms.
If you move furniture, equipment, or set pieces for a shoot or session, plan to return the room to its default layout before you leave, unless the next booking is yours. </aside>

When people buzz the door for access, a control pad near the front elevator will ring and light up. Generally someone on staff will be around to handle it, but help with the door is always appreciated!
To open the door, press the yellow button on the keypad. Then press the red button to hang up the “call.” </aside>

The main foyer and mainstage light switches are located below the doorbell that controls the entire studio.
The kitchen light switches are to the left of the kitchen.
The hallway light switches are to the left of the projection room.
The AC and fan should remain as they are and stay on! The temperature can be adjusted if it gets too hot.
The black curtains should be open! The white curtains should be closed, unless your shoot requires blackout — please restore them afterward.
The shades should remain as they are unless your session needs them adjusted — here are instructions for operating the automated shades. </aside>

You are responsible for making sure any equipment you use (motion capture systems, cameras, LED wall, headsets, gloves, etc.) is powered on and functioning properly before you begin.
If you run into any issues, refer to the equipment instructions on file and try restarting it — if it still doesn't work, reach out to ONX staff to troubleshoot.
Please return any equipment to its labeled storage spot at the end of your session.
TVs and computers used for production should be shut down properly at the end of your session unless you've been told otherwise — check with ONX staff if you're unsure.
Report any damage, missing items, or malfunctioning equipment to ONX staff immediately, even if it wasn't caused by you! </aside>

You are welcome to install your own software, but please don’t take advantage of admin privileges or make changes to BIOS or hardware settings.
Always work off your own external SSD — ONX isn't responsible for anything stored on studio computers, and they may be wiped depending on usage, so back up your files. </aside>

Be mindful of noise, lighting changes, and shared spaces if other artists or staff are working nearby. Please try to keep loud productions or rehearsals outside of normal business hours out of respect for our neighbors and others using the studio. Normal business hours are generally from 10AM to 6PM.
Don't touch, move, or use another artist's equipment, materials, or in-progress work without asking first.
Keep personal belongings and materials contained to your booked area.
You can use the kitchen and store food in the fridge, use the microwave, etc. There is water, coffee, tea, seltzer, and snacks.
If you're bringing guests, collaborators, or crew, let ONX staff know in advance. </aside>

The first aid kit is located in the pantry, under the kitchen sink.
Please familiarize yourself with all exits and windows!
If there is an incident or you notice any concerning behavior, reach out to ONX staff immediately.
In case of an emergency evacuation, calmly head to the nearest exit and stairwell — do not use the elevator during an evacuation unless told to do so.
If the elevator becomes stuck with anyone inside, remain calm and notify ONX staff immediately — do not attempt to force open the elevator doors.
In case of a medical emergency, the closest urgent care center is:

If the medical emergency requires immediate attention or an ambulance, call 911 and alert ONX staff. </aside>

Do not power off any shared studio installations, TVs, or computers unless they're equipment you personally used for your session.
Wipe down any headsets, gloves, or handheld gear you used, and set them to charge in their designated station.
Make sure any equipment you checked out is accounted for and returned.
If you are the last to leave, turn the lights off!
Please keep your area tidy and return any misplaced chairs, cables, or props.
If any issues came up during your session, please flag it directly with ONX staff. </aside>
